CONTENT AREAS

10 Content Areas

  1. Families & Individuals in Societal Contexts: understanding how families connect to the institutions in society (ex. religious or government institutions). Since I want to work with immigrant families, relating to various institutions will be a focus of mine.

  2. Internal Dynamics of Families: This focuses on the family systems theory and the complexity of the family. I want to work with immigrant families, and without a doubt they will have various dynamics that I will need to understand and work through.

  3. Human Growth & Development Across the Lifespan: understanding how individuals and families develop and understanding physical, cognitive, social, moral, and personality development. This will be essential as families learn and grow and need the knowledge of what is normal and not normal.

  4. Human Sexuality Across the Lifespan: the sexual changes that take place physiologically, socially, and psychologically. I put this into place by respecting the sexual norms of other cultures and the feelings of each child while I lived in Chile.

  5. Interpersonal Relationships: this area is focused on understanding the complexity of interpersonal relationships and intimacy. Children can learn from their parents proper relationships and intimacy through FLE.

  6. Family Resource Management: how to run a family and the complexity of the decisions each family makes. Through practice, I will help develop skills in the family such as time management and budgeting.

  7. Parenting Education & Guidance: how parents teach and guide their children through the changing dynamics of a lifespan. I can help families I work with to understand how to cope with difficult changes.

  8. Family Law & Public Policy: legal issues that impact the well-being of families. I can inform the immigrant families I work with about the rights they have in this country.

  9. Professional Ethics & Practice: knowing the boundaries and ethical questions and dilemmas in professional practice. I am able to maintain healthy boundaries and know when someone needs help that is out of my care through what I've learned in this content area

  10. Family Life Education Methodology: general physiology and principles of FLE: how to plan, implement and evaluate FLE programs. I did this as I have already taught and evaluated various FLE programs and taught a main course on budgeting to a group of college students.
